Instagram stories are one of the best ways businesses are able to engage their followers. Facebook recently announced that over 500 million people are viewing Instagram Stories on their devices daily. Other have said that more people are being engaged via stories than posts themselves – so what does this really mean for businesses?

In this blog, we’re going to look a little bit deeper into how businesses are able to listen to their followers using Instagram Stories. You may be asking yourself, “why is listening to our customers actually important?”. Well the answer is quite simple. Your customers are the recipients and end-users of what you’re producing – so they’re the best judge of whether or not you’re bringing the goods.

Truly listening is listening to the needs of the customer, understanding those needs and making sure the company recognises the opportunities they present.

On a side note, we totally recognise that listening to what people think about you can make you awfully uncomfortable (is there actually anyone that likes to be told that what they’re doing sucks?), but at the same time it presents a genuine opportunity to make yourself and what you produce better.

Polling

Back in 2017, Instagram launched the Polls sticker in their Stories. And then in 2018, they launched the Questions sticker.

These two stickers hold a huge amount of potential to listen to your followers. It’s seriously one of the best ways to ask the difficult questions in a fun, engaging and interactive way. And you’re probably going to get a more honest response, simply because they’re answering the question on their terms.

Questions

Imagine this. You’ve just launched this amazing new dish in your local café – and you think it’s the bees knees. You’re raving on about it in-store and even on social media. Your customers buckle to the hype and order it, but it doesn’t meet the hype… and they leave disappointed.

But one of the greatest benefits of this is the feedback is in real time. No delays. No waiting.
